Steven Joyce has come straight into Parliament and straight into the job of Minister of Communications. Tasked with rolling out National's $1.5 billion election promise to install a fibre infrastructure, is his political inexperience a good thing or a bad thing?
A good thing, his practical commercial experience with Radio Works will be more valuable in making it happen.
A bad thing, officials and other politicians will run rings around him. He only got the job as a favour for running National's campaigns anyway.
I'm undecided. The whole thing could go up in smoke anyway in the current economic climate.
